According to the recent rumor over at Hexus.net, AMD might be preparing a new flagship limited edition CPU, codename Centurion, that should be based on the Piledriver architecture and put some pressure on Intel's flagship lineup.
According to the report, the upcoming FX Centurion might end up to be a limited edition CPU that should work at 5GHz. It is unfortunately still not clear if we are talking about a 5GHz base or 5GHz maximum Turbo Core clock but in any case it should provide some impressive benchmark results. Hexus.net was not clear if we are talking about an 8-core CPU or any other, but it appears that AMD aims for stable 5GHz even on air cooling.
Unfortunately, it will also be quite an expensive piece at around US $795, which should put it quite close to Intel's high-performance high-end desktop (HEDT) LGA2011 lineup.
