NVIDIA GTX 1170 to beat GTX 1080 Ti?

This appears to be fat-fetched

Not only is the launch of Intel’s next generation CPUs almost around the corner – at least so it feels judging by the speed the rumour mill is spinning again – an alleged benchmark score of what’s supposed to be a NVIDIA GTX 1170 graphics card has appeared.

The 3DMark Firestrike result at hand has been published in the shape of a photo from a screen. If we’re to believe the value an alleged NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1170 would be capable of scoring 22’989 points in this particular benchmark, thus outperforming a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti. Checking the photo further, we find a 256-bit memory interface, 16GB of GDDR6 memory and the core is supposed to clock at about 2.5 GHz.

As the guys over at WCCFTech pointed out there are several hints as to why this photo could be fake. First of all, it’s a photo of a screen and not a screenshot. Second, this early before a launch the Futuremark database is usually not capable of recognizing cards thus naming it “Generic VGA” and not showing the actual model name. Third, no online entry could be found when browsing the 3DMark database although the photo shows one.
