As part of its Computex keynote, Intel has unveiled a high-end desktop CPU with 28 cores and 56 threads. This CPU was sitting inside a single socket motherboard and the company demonstrated that it can hit 5GHz on all cores with Cinebench.
According to the first information, Intel was apparently able to reach that frequency without using exotic cryo-coolants. The systems on display appeared to be in standard desktop cases using some kind of liquid cooling. At the moment there isn't any further information regarding power supply, cooling or compatibility with current LGA2066 socket.
Intel said that this upcoming monster will be available in Q4 of this year.
