Microsoft has announced that it's blocking some systems based on Intel SSDs from receiving the Windows 10 April 2018 update. The update has been released a couple of weeks ago, but according to some reports the update has caused several issues on some systems. For now, users with unspecified Intel SSDs will not receive the April update in both automatic or manual way.
Microsoft has pushed updates to many systems with Intel SSDs, however the company suggests to roll back to Windows 10 version 1709. At the moment isn't clear what kind of Intel SSDs are impacted by the errors. Furthermore we aren't sure if this issue will affect Intel Optane SSDs as well. According to Microsoft, if you have an Intel SSD you might suffer from reduced performance or instability.
Intel's portfolio is rather large and it's hard to imagine what kind of SSDs are affected. For example we don't know if this issue is limited to SATA or NVMe protocols. Since Intel usually delievers its own custom drivers, we hope to see soon a fix from Intel and Microsoft. Windows 10 will receive a future update to address this issue and Microsoft will release soon a list of the impacted SSDs.
