ASUS quietly changes ROG Strix GTX 1080 Ti PCB

Incompatible with EKWB waterblocks

Find a different or revised PCB designs isn't so uncommon and most of the times go unnoticed. However ASUS has changed the PCB design of one of their flagship graphics card introducing some compatibility issues. According to EKWB, the new PCB design isn't compatible anymore with two products.

If you are planning to install water cooling parts on your ROG Strix GTX 1080 Ti, we suggest to check the serial number on the box. According to EK Water Blocks, there are different serial numbers for the ROG Strix GTX 1080 Ti graphics card. The following S/N range won't be compatible with the EK-FC1080 GTX Ti Strix full cover water block or the EK-MLC GPU module: HBYVCM064817 - HBYVCM999999 and HCYVCM000001 - HCYVCM059975.

According on the serial numbers, these ROG Strix GTX 1080 Ti cards were manufactured after November 2017, so this change is rather new. If you are picking up a ROG Strix GTX 1080 Ti with the intention of using an EK waterblock, we suggest to get a compatible water block elsewhere.
