A few days ago Intel has unveiled their Coffee Lake CPUs but can you actually buy a Coffee Lake CPU? The short answer is yes although you can't buy all the different SKUs yet. Intel's new processors are available in almost all the e-tail stores around the globe, as long as you don't want the flagship Core i7-8700K. In that case, you have to wait few weeks or even months.
Should you be looking for the that top-tier Core i7-8700K you have to wait a bit. Speaking about the US market, on Newegg the i7-8700K is already out of stock while on Amazon it’s not even listed yet. Other e-tailers like NCIXUS and B&H Photo Video list the chip but it’s already in back-order. Only on Micro Center the Core i7-8700K is actually available but with a premium price tag of $500 US. Meanwhile in Europe the situation is quite similar since the CPU not even being listed on Caseking as well as OverclockersUK.
If you really want a Coffee Lake chip, then you’d have to pick up a Core i7-8700 or Core i5-8600K since they are both available but apparently these aren’t the most powerful SKUs in the lineup. Going further down the product range, the Coffee Lake lineup includes the Core i3-8100, the Core i3-8350K and the Core i5-8400 ras of now. According to latest rumors, new shipments are expected by October 16, but it’s still unclear if that is going to change something regarding the availability of Core i7-8700K chips.
If you are looking for a motherboard, the situation looks quite a bit better. At the moment there are already more than 40 different SKUs available and they’re all in stock.
