Beginning in 2018 AOC will ship AGON3 branded gaming displays that offer a response time of a mere 0.5ms. These monitors will be based on a curved 27’’ TN panel from AUO. The resolution will be 2560 x 1440 at 144 Hz refresh rate. Apart from that the display will support G-Sync or FreeSync 2, meaning there will be different models available at different price points.
Diving into the details the AUO panel delivers a maximum brightness of 400cd/m2. In the case of the display that supports FreeSync2 this is enough to officially support HDR. The NVIDIA counterpart on the other hand won’t come with HDR support mentioned in the specs, which is because of the fact that NVIDIA’s HDR requirements are much higher in terms of brightness. To comply with NVIDIA’s requirements 1000cm/m2 regarding brightness is needed.
On another note there is a significant price difference in the case of the NVIDIA G-Sync and the AMD FreeSync2 certified displays. While the AMD variant is going to retail for 599 Euro the NVIDIA G-Sync certified model is going to set you back 699 Euro. That being that there is a whopping 100 Euro price gap between an AMD FreeSync 2 and an NVIDIA G-Sync certified gaming monitor.
