Cherry increases comfort of MX Board 5.0

Thanks to new feet

It’s almost refreshing to see a vendor/manufacturer not advertising a product as “made for gamers”, “optimized for gaming”, or “whichever marketing slogan can be made up ending with gaming”. Cherry nicely steps out of line simply mentioning what they’ve actually changed on their MX Board 5.0.

To bring a little more comfort to your desk, may it simply be for your everyday typing or the ever so trendy gaming, Cherry has equipped the MX Board 5.0 with new feet. Usually companies don’t really look into this particular feature, although it can make for quite a difference. The new feet allow the user to change between seven different positions. Apart from that the keyboard comes with a rather generously sized hand rest. Furthermore the top cover is made from aluminum, adding sturdiness as well as providing the peripheral with nice looks.

In the case of the switches Cherry using their MX Silent Red ones, which have been slightly customized. The key travel is 3.7mm, which is 0.3mm less than what you get or what you might be used to from your standard Cherry Red switches. The release point comes after pushing the key down 1.9mm, which is 0.1mm less than what the standard MX Red switches ship with. Apart from that the actuation force is 45g, which usually makes for a typing experience that doesn’t require any force pressing the keys down at all. Another particularity about the Cherry MX Silent Red switches is the fact, that they’ve receive dampening, which doesn’t only make typing more silent but it also makes the experience softer. Especially if you’re typing a lot during the day you’re likely to feel less pain in the joints (at least that’s my experience and it would be interesting to know if you made similar experiences).

Currently the MX Board 5.0 has not yet been listed by retailers/e-tailers but we’d expect it show up any day. Cherry has set the MSRP to 159 EUR.
