Kingston and Marvell are working on new SSDs

Celebrating six million SSD shipments

A few months ago it’s been reported that Kingston SSD sales are doing very well, coming in second after Samsung in 2016. Kingston has a long track record working closely with Marvell. Over the past years the two companies have sold millions of drives and celebrating the six million SSD shipments it appears to be the time to launch more new products.

Kingston started the partnership with Marvell almost two years ago with their HyperX line of SSDs. The HyperX Predator PCIe SSD was actually their first solid state drive to use a Marvell Controller. About one year ago, Kingston introduced the UV400, which is more of a mainstream SSD, which is powered by a Marvell 88SS1074 four-channel controller.

After that, the company unveiled the UV500 which was Kingston’s first 3D-NAND-based SSD where the same Marvell 88SS1074 controller was used. With six million SSD shipments, Marvell and Kingston are both pleased with the progress they are making together and we can be curious what’s going to happen next.
