During the past few days, numerous rumors as well as bits and pieces of information on AMD’s 300-series motherboards with socket TR4 have surfaced. Meanwhile the guys from Chiphell have jumped the gun and released a bunch of pictures on the ASUS X399 ROG Zenith Extreme motherboard. As you could have possibly guessed, this is going to be ASUS’ flagship model.

The X399 ROG Zenith Extreme is an E-ATX form-factor motherboard and there is a total of eight DIMM slots, which you get due to the quad-channel memory interface Ryzen Threadripper ships with. Apart from that there is the "Aura" feature, which allows you to change the illumination of the board from within Windows. There are also four full-sized PCIe slots with metal-reinforcement, one PCIe x4 slots and one PCIe x1. Between the first and the second full-sized PCIe slot there are two slots distance leaving plenty of room for graphics cards to breathe even in multi-GPU configurations.

On the storage side we see the ROG DIMM.2 adapter that can be equipped with two M.2 SSDs. The adapter card also comes with a mounting mechanism for a 50mm fan to prevent M.2 drives from thermal throttling. Furthermore there are six SATA 6Gbps ports, one U.2 port and a USB 3.1 front panel connector. One of the more interesting aspect of this motherboard is the power connectors. In the top right corner of the motherboard there are two 8+8 EPS power connectors for the CPU. Looking for additional features we find onboard buttons and a debug display, support for USB 3.1, a high-quality power design and a good mix of connectors at the I/O panel. Apart from that there is a big bundle with tons of accessories.

At a first glance this is certainly a good looking motherboard. This much bling-bling on a motherboard usually comes at a price, which makes us assume, that this board is definitely not going to be a bargain.
