Vega Gaming Mode has no impact on gaming performance

Unfinished feature

Gamers Nexus had the chance to come up with a review on the AMD Radeon Pro Vega Frontier Edition graphics card. In a rather lengthy video they described the experience with the two different modes the card offers. It looks like that the "Pro Mode" and "Gaming Mode" are identical in combination with the current drivers. The only thing that differs concerns a few options in the AMD's Radeon Settings.

According to AMD the Vega Frontier Edition is targeted at professionals much rather than at gamers. Nevertheless the benchmark results of this particular card should allow for an outlook at what can be expected from the yet to be released RX Vega cards.

In that context Gamers Nexus had opportunity to test the Vega Frontier Edition card comparing "Gaming Mode" and "Pro Mode". According to the tester, the "Pro Mode" and "Gaming Mode" are identical with current drivers in terms of performance. Only a few settings were actually different, which had no impact on gaming performance.

According to Gamers Nexus, the difference between "Pro Mode" and "Gaming Mode" stays within 1%, which we would attribute to the margin of error. At this time there aren't many information about, but maybe AMD hasn't released gaming driver compatible with Vega graphics cards yet.

So far the rumor mill is still going crazy when it comes to everything that’s related to AMD’s Vega-based cards. There are some sources mentioning that there are still no proper gaming drivers available for the Vega-based cards. We’re honestly a bit more sceptic about the whole situation, as we’re not expecting the AMD RX Vega cards to perform much faster than NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 1080, no matter how well optimized future AMD drivers are going to be.
