According to latest rumors, Intel is planning to release their new Coffee Lake series of CPUs alongside the Z370 chipset in Q4 2017. Although the acclaimed launch date will be somewhen between October and December time frame, news leaks related to Coffee Lake are making it through almost every day now.
What’s really interesting to see with this latest batch of rumors is that there is more information on Intel’s 300 series chipset, which will succeed the current 200 series. The upcoming Intel 300 series chipset will still use the current socket LGA 1151 and on top of that it looks like Intel it’s looking like Intel is finally bringing hexa core CPUs to the mainstream market. That in the end would make Coffee Lake even more interesting. In that context we’re almost certain that there will be a six core part from Intel, since during the past days more and more benchmark results of such CPUs have leaked.
Apart from that the Intel Z370 platform could receive a significant upgrade on the network side, in the shape of integrated WiFi module and a faster Ethernet standard. Furthermore there will be more USB 3.0 ports as well as USB 3.1 connectors. The other main aspects such as PCI Express 3.0 lanes or SATA-III port count might remain unchanged.
So far it looks like Coffee Lake, in combination with Z370, is finally going to be an upgrade to the mainstream market. Six cores and integrated WiFi are two things we could have in the mainstream segment since quite a while already but up until AMD didn’t tease Intel with Ryzen simply nothing has happened on this front.
