External graphics card docks are not so common, yet there are many reasons why this could change. During this year’s Computex, Gigabyte has shown the Aorus GTX 1070 Gaming Box and it looks like one of the best solutions so far. The box not only comes pre-packed with an ITX-sized GTX 1070 it's also one of the smallest external GPU cases we’ve seen so far, which makes perfect sense keeping in mind that it’s most likely going to be combined with a notebook or a mini PC.
The box itself measures 21 x 16 x 10 centimeters and it's barely larger than some GTX 1070 cards. Inside the Gaming Box there is a GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card and a 450 W power supply. Thanks to the oversized power supply, the Gaming Box can power the graphics card and four USB 3.0 devices, which can pull up to 100W combined. Furthermore one of the USB ports supports quick charging too. Since the PSU is rated 80 Plus Gold, it shouldn't waste too much energy even if you are not pushing at full load.
Although the graphics card itself comes with a some sort of lighting as well, the enclosure includes RGB LED, which can be configured using Gigabyte's RGB Fusion app. The rear part of the box also comes with a set of useful connectors. There are the four USB 3.0 ports, we already mentioned, one Thunderbolt 3, one HDMI, one DisplayPort and two DVI ports. Gigabyte hasn't come forward with pricing details yet, but according to the latest rumors the price should be around $500 US. Apart from that Gaming Box is supposed to become available soon.
