Plextor announces M8Se NVMe SSD availability

Up to 1TB capacity

NVMe capable SSDs are growing increasingly popular these days, offering much higher transfer speeds than your usual SATA drive. New markets always offer new opportunities and that on the other hand means that different vendors will launch new products. A few months ago Plextor unveiled the M8Se NVMe SSD and those drives are now available.

The Plextor M8Se NVMe SSD is going to be available with 120GB, 240GB, 480GB and 1TB capacity. Since this SSD is based on TLC NAND flash memory its price is rather competitive and performance is supposed to be somewhere in the mid-tier compared to other NVMe drives. Like most NVMe SSDs out today, the Plextor M8Se NVMe SSD makes use of the M.2 2280 form factor and a PCIe Gen 3.0 x4 interface. Checking more in detail, the M8Se is available in three variants: M8Se-Y (PCIe add-on card), M8Se-G (M.2-2280 with heatsink) and M8Se-GN (M.2-2280 without heatsink).

Looking at the performance figures, sequentially reading these drives should hit up to 2'450MB/s and 1'000MB/s in the case of sequential writing. In the case of random performance it’s supposed to reach 210,000 IOPS reading and up to 175,000 IOPS writing 4k blocks. All the drives are backed by a three year warranty plan and prices start at 83€ for the 120GB variant, and go up to 494€ for the 1TB model.
