AMD is working on 12 core Ryzen CPU

Compatible with AMD X399 chipset

There's not a day that we’re not talking about AMD Ryzen. According to a rumor that originated in the SiSoft Sandra database, AMD is already working on a new high-end Ryzen CPU which will feature 12 cores and 24 threads. Furthermore this new CPU will be compatible with the upcoming AMD X399 chipset.

A few days ago we reported a leak from CanardPC about an alleged AMD Ryzen processor with 16 cores and 32 threads. According to SiSoft Sandra’s database, it looks like AMD is going to release a new flagship CPU with 12 cores and 24 threads and the base/boost clock speeds are set to 2.7GHz and 3.2GHz. So far it looks like the TDP is going to be 95W, which means that the clock speeds under full load are as high as they can be in the case of standard cooling methods. The CPU, which goes under the name "2D2701A9UC9F4_32/27_N", has been spotted inside an Alienware Area-51 R3 PC.

The new AMD X399 platform might use the socket SP3r2 LGA (Land Grid Array). Compared to AMD Naples - the server part - we find a lower core count and less memory channels. In the case of Naples there are CPUs with up to 32 cores and 64 threads in combination with an eight-channel DDR4 memory interface. AMD’s X399 chipset might bring quad-channel DDR4 memory support and it looks like it’s directly going to compete with Intel's X99 platform. A few days ago, Chiphell reported that AMD might release this new flagship platform during Computex 2017.

If all this is true, AMD might release a very strong competitor for Intel’s X99 and X299 series. But as of now all the information here has to be taken with a grain of salt since nothing is confirmed yet.
