AMD Ryzen six-core and quad-core leak

Available next month

According to an accidental leak from Guru3D, AMD will release the Ryzen 5 CPU series next month. The article has been removed but still AMD will launch four different CPUs including two six-cores and two quad-cores. Using this approach AMD is planning to attack Intel's Core i5 CPU series.

So far the AMD's Ryzen CPU lineup includes 3 eight-core processors and the pack is led by the AMD Ryzen 7 1800X, followed by the Ryzen 7 1700X and the Ryzen 7 1700. The base clock frequency ranges from 3.0 GHz to 3.6 GHz and all CPUs feature SMT, enabling 16 logical CPUs. A few days ago CanardPC leaked that the AMD Ryzen 3 1400 and the AMD Ryzen 3 1200 are in the pipeline as well. Both these chips will feature base clock speeds in the region of 3.2GHz, and boost clocks around 3.4GHz. Like all Ryzen CPUs these models will support overclocking, which could turn these CPUs into great budget performers.

With the last leak from Guru3D we complete the AMD Ryzen CPU series, the four upcoming models will feature six-core and quad-core CPUs. At the top of the food chain we find the AMD Ryzen 5 1600X which is followed by the Ryzen 5 1600. Both models feature a TDP of 95W, six-cores and SMT will be enabled. The base clock frequency ranges from 3.2 GHz to 3.6 GHz and therefore the boost clock range is 400 MHz. After that we find the AMD Ryzen 5 1500X and the AMD Ryzen 5 1400. These two processors feature four cores and eight threads, with a base clock that ranges between 3.2 GHz and 3.5 GHz. The boost clock is set to 3.4 GHz for the first model and to 3.7 GHz for the second one. Both models feature a TDP of 65W.

According to the leak, these new models will become available somewhen during the next month. The Ryzen 5 1600X seems to offer great value for money with higher clocks compared to the Ryzen 7 1800X, in other words this model could be quite an interesting chip - not only for gamers. Following you can find a list of the upcoming AMD chips:
  • AMD Ryzen 5 1600X, 6C/12T, 3MB L2, 16MB L3, Base 3.6GHz/Boost 4GHz, 95W TDP, $249
  • AMD Ryzen 5 1600, 6C/12T, 3MB L2, 16MB L3, Base 3.2GHz/Boost 3.6GHz, 95W TDP, $219
  • AMD Ryzen 5 1500X, 4C/8T, 2MB L2, 8MB L3, Base 3.5GHz/Boost 3.7GHz, 65W TDP, $189
  • AMD Ryzen 5 1400, 4C/8T, 2MB L2, 8MB L3, Base 3.2GHz/Boost 3.4GHz, 65W TDP, $169
