MSI also has a new GeForce GTX 1080 Ti with custom design up its sleeve. The GeForce GTX 1080 Ti GAMING X is most certainly the vendor’s flagship model, featuring a custom PCB and a custom cooler.
As we already mentioned the MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Ti GAMING X is going to be equipped with a custom PCB as well as the Twin Frozr VI cooler including Torx 2.0 fans. Since the card is not out yet, we don't know if MSI is going to use the same cooler that can be found on the GTX 1080/1070 series or if it’s been modified to a certain extent.
This card is supposed to deliver excellent performance. Although the folks over at videocardz.com mention that this particular pixel accelerator will feature reference clocks, we believe otherwise. In the past the GAMING X series graphics cards from MSI always featured substantial factory overclock and we don’t believe there is going to be anything different. Nevertheless, it could be that NVIDIA came up with some new regulations on what they’re allowing the vendors to do with their chip, yet we’d regard a move like this as highly unlikely.
On the connector’s side we find the usual three DisplayPorts 1.4, one HDMI 2.0b connector and one dual-link DVI port. Since all the latest MSI motherboards have been equipped with an armada of LEDs for RGB lighting, this card also features several LEDs on both sides. Apart from that there is a backplate with an integrated PWM heatsink.
As of today there is no date available when these cards will hit the shelves of your local retailer. We’d expect this to happen within the upcoming weeks and apart from that we’d also expect that MSI is going to launch at least one more version of the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti.
