AMD 7 1700 gets delidded

Just a few hours before the launch

A while ago well-known overclocker Der8auer created a tool to delid Skylake (and other) processors. Now, with the new AMD Ryzen chips, he managed to delid also this new processor without using any specific tools. We managed to get a couple of pictures of a delidded AMD 7 1700 CPU that is going to launched today.

Like all the LGA2011-3 high-end CPUs from Intel, also the new flagship AMD Ryzen CPU has a heatspreader that has been soldered to the die. Despite this fact, Roman Hartung, aka Der8auer, managed to remove the IHS. He already published a video which is available in German as well as in English. In order to complete this task, Roman has used several different razor blades. As of now he hasn't completed any further temperature testing on the delidded chip.

For this test he used an AMD Ryzen 7 1700 chip but during the weekend he will repeat the delidding process with a flagship AMD Ryzen 7 1800X chip. According to what we can see from all the images, the Ryzen PCB seems quite crowded with several resistors and capacitors. In addition the PCB is quite thick and pretty hard to bend. You can have a detailed look at everything playing the video below.
