Also during their annual investors meeting Intel announced that are going to launch yet another Xeon E7 processor. This particular chip is going to be based on the Broadwell-EX architecture featuring 24 cores at the clock speed of 2.4 GHz. Apparently this being a Xeon E7 chip it’s going to be quite pricey retailing at 8898 US-Dollar a piece.
The E7-8894 v4 is going to be Intel’s annual flagship processor regarding their Xeon lineup. Compared to the previous E7-8890 v4 the base clock has been increased by 200 MHz. In the case of the turbo clock 3.4 GHz can now be achieved. Having a quick look at the TDP reveals a figure of 165 W.
Like all Xeon processors the E7-8894 is going to address the professional market. Therefore this particular chip can be used on four socket as well as eight socket systems and if you’re using a node controller even 32 sockets are possible.
