Nvidia GTX 1060 pushed beyond 3GHz

Core Clock

During the Galax GOC 2016 overclocking event in China, several different teams of overclockers were pushing Galaxy GTX 1060 HOF graphics cards to their absolute limit, while overclocker Vivi, for the first time broke through the 3GHz barrier.

The GTX 1060 is base on the GP106 Pascal chip, which has proven to be a lot of fun for overclocking. Vivi, a well-know overclocker from South Africa, has was able to push his card to an astonishing 3'012 MHz. Keeping in mind that stock clocks for this card are 1'620 MHz this means he’s been able to almost double the frequency.

Apparently this is the highest ever achieved frequency with any graphics card that still allowed for benchmarking. As you can imagine during an extreme overclocking event also extreme cooling methods have been used, chilling the GP106 chip with liquid nitrogen.

Although the GTX 1060 belongs to the mid-range series, with this helfy frequency the pixel fill rates is even higher than what a stock GTX 1080 is capable of. Already a few weeks ago 2.8 GHz were reached with this card and now it even allowed for more.
