ADATA has shown their new SU900 series of SSDs based on 3D NAND flash memory. With the SU900 series, ADATA offers a unit based on a Silicon Motion SMI 2258 controller which has been paired with an SLC NAND buffer and a DRAM cache. All this comes in a 2.5 inch package.
These units come with a SATA-III interface so the performance is not going to be a surprise. As expected the SU900 SSDs are able to max out the SATA-III interface, hitting up to 560MB/s sequential read and 525MB/s for sequential writes. In the case of random performance there aren't any information yet.
ADATA is not mentioning endurance in TBW (Terabytes Write), instead they’re mentioning the mean time before failure (MTBF), which is to 2'000'000 hours, which is a value that unfortunately doesn’t say much in regards to endurance of SSDs. In addition this unit supports S.M.A.R.T., TRIM and NCQ, which is what you expect it to support.
The new SU900 SSDs will be available with 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB of storage capacity and they’ll be covered by a 5-year warranty plan. So far ADATA has not revealed any details on pricing and availability but we’re sure it won’t take very long until those drives are going to be listed on the usual price comparison portals.
