AMD Radeon Software 16.10.1 gets WHQL-certified

Official support for Oculus Asynchronous Spacewarp

AMD has released WHQL-certified version of its previously release Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.10.1 drivers, which bring a couple of game optimizations as well as support for the new Oculus Asynchronous Spacewarp feature on Polaris 10 GPUs.

The new Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.10.1 WHQL drivers bring all the optimizations seen with earlier released Hotfix version of the same drivers, including optimizations for Gears of War 4 and Mafia 3 games as well as Crossfire profile for Shadow Warrior 2 game.

It also adds support for the recently announced Oculus Asynchronous Spacewarp feature on Polaris 10 GPU based graphics cards, the RX 480 and RX 470. The same Asynchronous Spacewarp feature was responsible for lowering the minimum system requirements for the Oculus Rift VR headset.

The new Asynchronous Spacewarp feature is the next-generation Asynchronous Timewarp which adjusts the images in the headset by taking into account two previous frames, providing a much better visual experience.

It uses a special algorithm that takes two previous frames and generates a "space warped" frame which is rendered while considering the new physical position of the headset, which should help remove the so-called positional stuttering.

As always, the new Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.10.1 WHQL drivers are available for Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 OS, in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions and support all AMD Radeon graphics cards since the Radeon HD 7700/HD 7900 series.
