In an official set of slides that have leaked after E3 2016 show, AMD has confirmed more specifications for both its Polaris GPUs, that will power the recently announced RX 480, RX 470 and the RX 460 graphics cards.
The Polaris 10 and Polaris 11 GPUs, codenamed Ellesmere and Baffin, will cover different segments of the market and both offer up to 2.8x performance per Watt improvement compared to the previous generation.
The higher performing chip, Polaris 10, will be behind both the RX 480 and the RX 470. The RX 480 will pack 36 Compute Units (CUs) for 2304 Stream Processors and will come with either 4GB or 8GB of GDDR5 memory paired up with a 256-bit memory interface. While the RX 480 will be based on Ellesmere XT chip with 2304 Stream Processors, the RX 470 will come with Ellesmere Pro chip, with yet to be unveiled amount of Stream Processors.
AMD targets affordable VR and 1440p gaming with the RX 480 while RX 470 should target 1080p gaming market segment. The price of the RX 480 is set at US $199 for the 4GB and probably around $239 for the 8GB versions. The RX 470 should launch with MSRP set at US $179, so GPU should not be heavily crippled.
The Polaris 11, also known as Baffin, will pack 16 CUs for a total of 1024 Stream Processors and come with 4GB of GDDR5 memory on a 128-bit memory interface. This GPU will be behind the recently unveiled RX 460 and should be a decent competition for Geforce GTX 950, offering decent performance for MOBA games.
AMD is expected to launch the Radeon RX 480, in both 4GB and 8GB versions, on June 29th, while the precise launch date for RX 470 and RX 460 is still unknown.
