A change in socket usually brings a lot of trouble if you are using non-stock coolers but it appears that AMD's upcoming AM4 socket will actually be compatible with all current coolers.
According to a Facebook post from Thermalright, AMD's new AM4 platform will use the standard mounting holes that have been used since Socket 939.
While Thermalright has removed the post due to being under NDA,
eTekinx.com caught it before it was taken off.
The fact that the new AM4 socket will use the same mounting holes as the previous AMD sockets makes the life and upgrade a lot easier as users would be able to use their favorite CPU cooler. This also means that manufacturers of after-market coolers won't have to change the design or ship free mounting clips for the new socket.
It also means that AMD could still use its own boxed coolers, including the recently released Wraith CPU cooler which got decent reviews due to its silent performance.
AMD has decided to unify its products on the single platform so it will be support on both upcoming AMD's FX-series Zen-based Summit Ridge CPUs and Excavator-based Bristol Ridge APUs and will bring support for DDR4 memory.
AMD is expected to officially introduce the new AM4 platform at Computex 2016 with Bristol Ridge so we won't have to wait long to confirm it.
