Seagate has now announced that it its 10TB enterprise-class helium-filled HDDs have entered regular production and are now shipping in volume.
Originally unveiled back in January, the 10TB Enterprise HDDs from Seagate are filled with helium which should significantly reduce power consumption.
Available in 6Gbps SATA and 12Gbps SAS versions, the 10TB is based on a standard 3.5-inch form-factor and features perpendicular magnetic recording as well as 14 read heads and seven 1.43TB platters.
The rest of the features include PowerChoice, a feature which reduces power in idle and PowerBalance, which which optimizes performance per watt.
Since these are enterprise-class HDDs, they are designed for always-on operation and have a MTBF of 2.5 million hours with 5 year warranty.
We managed to spot the new Seagate Enterprise 10TB HDD in Europe with a price of around €600.
