Spotted back in March, Intel's value-oriented SSD 540S Series is now finally available and it comes based on 16nm TLC NAND from SK Hynix paired up with a Silicon Motion SM2256 controller.

Available in capacities of 120GB, 180GB, 240GB, 360GB, 480GB and 1TB as well as standard 2.5-inch and M.2 2280 SATA 6Gbps form-factors, the new Intel SSD 540s Series should offer significant improvement in price per gigabyte due to the use of 16nm TLC NAND. It is also the first Intel-based SSD to use SK Hynix NAND, rather than one from Micron.

According to Intel's official specifications, the new Intel 540s Series will feature SLC cache, which should deal with performance limitations of TLC NAND, and offer sequential transfer performance of up to 560MB/s for read and up to 480MB/s for write with random 4K read and write performance of up to 78K and 85K IOPS.

The life expectancy is set at 1.6 MTBF and it comes with a five-year limited warranty.

The new Intel SSD 540s Series should be available sometime this month with a €50 price on the 120GB version and up to around €280 for the 1TB version. We spotted the entire lineup listed in Europe and the prices seem to vary depending on the region.
