Intel had a long-term cross license agreement with Nvidia since 2011 but now it appears that Intel might go to AMD for a similar deal as the one with Nvidia comes to an end.
According to a rumor coming from a private Bloomberg report, Intel and AMD are currently talking about a new graphics IP licensing agreement. Although it is not clear which patents and technologies will be included with this agreement it still sounds like a great deal for AMD.
AMD could get a decent amount of cash from such a deal as the similar earlier agreement between Intel and Nvidia was a US $1.5 billion deal. This could certainly help AMD after reporting a significant loss during last few quarters.
Such a deal could benefit Intel as well as it would give it access to AMD patents and possibly fend off Nvidia after their current patent-licensing agreement ends.
Intel has been pushing hard in order to create a good graphics solution and we could possibly see a custom APU chip that could end up with Intel CPU core and AMD iGPU.
