Oculus says Mac is not fast enough for VR gaming

Apple needs a faster Mac system

Oculus' founder Palmer Luckey noted that Apple Mac systems are simply not powerful enough to handle VR gaming and provide good enough VR experience.

In an interview with Shacknews, Luckey noted that in order to bring support for Oculus Rift on Apple Mac systems, Apple first has to have a system with enough GPU horsepower for VR. He also added that if Apple ever released a good computer, Oculus will bring the support.

Luckey also explained its statements saying that Apple simply "doesn't prioritize high-end GPUs", so even their high-end Mac Pro system with AMD Fire Pro D700 does not match recommended specifications and requirements.

Palmer also sasid that the company does not want to support the platform where users would not be able to play majority of VR titles but still noted that Oculus will be more than happy to support it if Apple decides to integrate high-end GPUs in their systems.

Previously, Oculus founder Palmer Luckey also said that low-power PCs are the biggest barrier for wider adoption of VR technology. It appears that until we see some cheaper VR headsets and cheaper high-end PC components, it appears that VR will be reserved for high-end market.
