Raspberry Pi 3 brings WiFi and 64-bit support

Celebrating fourth birthday

In order to celebrate the fourth birthday of its small computer, Raspberry Foundation has released the new version of its Raspberry Pi computer that will be based on a quad-core Cortex-A53 chip and have integrated WiFi and Bluetooth.

Based on Broadcom BCM2837 chip with quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU part clocked at 1.2GHz and VideoCore IV GPU as well as 1GB of RAM, the new Raspberry Pi 3 is up to ten times faster than the original Raspberry Pi launched four years ago. It is also around 50 to 60 percent faster than the Raspberry Pi 2.

In addition to the new quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU which brings both 32-bit and 64-bit support (although 64-bit support is currently disabled), the new Raspberry Pi also has integrated 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1, making it a more complete solution.

The rest of the specifications are pretty much the same as on the Raspberry Pi 2 so you get four USB 2.0 ports, single HDMI output, microSD card slot and 10/100 Ethernet.

The new Raspberry Pi 3 will be available as of today from usual sellers with a price set at US $35.
