HTC Vive VR Headset to cost US $799.99

Launching in April

During its presentation at Mobile World Congress 2016 (MWC 2016) in Barcelona, HTC has unveiled more details regarding it HTC Vive VR headset, which should be ready for pre-orders early next week, with an official launch price of US $799.99, and officially launch sometime in April.

The HTC Vive VR kit, which will include the HTC Vive Consumer Edition headset, two wireless controllers, two Vive Base Station room sensors, Vive Link Box and Vive earbuds. HTC will also bundle two games with the Vive VR headset, including Job Simulator: The 2050 Archives and The Fantastic Contraption. The HTC Vive VR headset will also integrate Valve's SteamVR software platform, which promises some great things.

The US $799.99 price tag makes the Vive VR headset, at US $200, more expensive compared to the Oculus VR headset but still makes both devices limited to enthusiasts, early adopters and developers as we do not see virtual reality kicking off until the price hits a more reasonable level.

Earlier this month, HTC has unveiled the minimum requirements for the HTC Vive VR headset, which are surprisingly a bit lower than those of the Oculus VR. While both need a Geforce GTX 970 or Radeon R9 290 or better graphics card, HTC Vive needs 4GB of RAM while Oculus Rift pushes that up to 8GB of RAM.

Oculus Rift also needs a bit more connectors, including HDMI 1.3, three USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0 port, while the HTC Vive will work with HDMI 1.4 or DisplayPort 1.2 and a single USB 2.0 port.

As noted, the HTC Vive VR headset pre-order will begin on February 29th at HTC's Vive homepage with US $799.99 price tag, while the official launch is expect sometime in April.
