AMD to power next-gen consoles

Brings 5x performance per watt and VR focus

According to the latest report, AMD will be powering next-generation consoles and these might be quite impressive, offering up to 5x the performance per watt and big focus on virtual reality (VR).

While the current generation of consoles are far from impressive, having trouble in coping with some current games at 720p resolution and 30FPS, it appears that the next-gen consoles, coming in 2018, might pack quite a big performance punch.

According to a latest rumor report coming from Wccftech.com, next-generation consoles will be powered by AMD's chips based on GCN architecture and pack 5x the performance per watt as well as have a big focus on VR.

AMD is already working on LiquidVR and already had a lot of success with the earlier available Mantle API, so it already has enough experience to make a powerful custom APU that could both provide impressive performance, work well with low-level API and hand VR seamlessly.
