Xiaomi made quite a lot of noise when it unveiled its newest Mi TV 3, a 60-inch 4K/UHD TV priced at under US $800.

Measuring at just 11.6mm at its thinnest point, the Mi TV 3 is quite an impressive thing and while the TV itself is not what you would consider a smart TV, Xiaomi is shipping it with Mi TV Bar, which turns it into a rather impressive smart TV. While it looks like a standard soundbar, it is actually a small smart device, powered by MStar 6A928 SoC and featuring 2GB of DDR3 RAM and 8GB of flash storage.

Once connected to the Mi TV 3 via Mi Port, which also adds power to the Mi TV Bar, it turns the Mi TV 3 into a fully enabled smart TV with access to MIUI TV, Xiaomi's Android-based smart TV platform.

While it is designed to work with Mi TV 3, the Mi TV Bar also works with any TV, monitor or a projector and while pulling most of the smart features from the TV itself, Xiaomi has lowered the cost of the TV but also made it easier for users to upgrade or replace it.

While currently only limited to China, we certainly hope that both the Xiaomi Mi TV 3 and the Mi TV Bar will be coming to Europe and the US. With the price set at RMB 999 (around US $157) for the Mi TV Bar and RMB 4,999 (around US $786), these are way cheaper than what you would pay for a similar sized smart TV.
