As the launch of Intels Skylake processors is apparently coming closer, so is the launch of the Z170 chipset, which goes along with it. Today the first ever pictures of Gigabyte's upcoming Z170-SOC Force motherboard have emerged and we're happy to show them to you.
A closer look at this particular board shows that there is a powerful CPU VRM and a quick look at all the connectors reveals that it can also be used as a "Gaming" motherboard. It looks like Gigabyte wants to kill two birds with one stone again when it comes to the SOC-Force, which was the case in the past as well.
Let's have a more detailed look at what we can see from the pictures. First of all there is a 24-pin ATX power connector as well as an 8-pin EPS, 4-pin ATX, and a 6-pin PCIe power connector on this board. Going a little furhter we see four DDR4 DIMM slots on this board, which support up to 64 Gigabyte dual-channel memory at up to 3200 MHz.
When shifting our focus to the expansion slots we see four PCI-Express 3.0 x16 ports, which can be configured x16/NC/NC/x4, x8/NC/x8/x4 or x8/x4/x4/x4. Apart from that there are also three PCI-Express 3.0 x1 ports. Gigabyte appears to be a friend of M.2 slots, since there are no less than three of them, which support 32 Gbps bandwidth. Looking for additional storage connecotrs there are eight SATA 6Gbps ports as well as three SATA-Express 16Gbps connectors.
Additional I/O supoorts two USB 3.1 ports (type-A), which have been located in close proximity to the SATA ports, where one of the ports can be converted to a type-C port.
A quick look at the rear I/O panel reveals there are up to eight USB 3.0 ports available at the rear panel, whereas four are available on the motherboard and four more are provided by headers. Apart from that there are several USB2.0/1.1 headers. Gigabyte also decided to equip this board with a DVI, an HDMI and a miniDisplayPort. I could be that the miniDisplayPort also supports Thunderbolt with 20 Gbps bandwidth. Furthermore there is one enthernet connector and it looks like there is the latest implementation of Gigabyte's Amp-Up audio solution onboard as well.
This is certainly one of the most interesting Z170 motherboards which are going to be launched. Usually the SOC-Force motherboards from Gigabyte are known for offering tons of overclocking features at a reasonable price level. We're definitely curious to find out more about this particular board.
