Up to 29 percent faster
As always, the closer we come to the launch of a new product, the more detailed start to surface. When it comes to Intels Skylake, the website Techbang is jumping the gun, publishing a whole set of benchmark results, where the compare the upcoming i7-6700K to the i7-4790K.
The guys from Techbang used a Z170-Claymore motherboard from ECS to test the CPU. As you might already know, Skylake requires a different socket; LGA1151. Taking a look at clock speeds we see that both CPUs feature the same base clock but the Haswell chip clocks 200 MHz higher in turbo mode.
On average the new Core i7-6700K is roughly seven percent quicker than its predecessor. Benchmarks like PCMark 8, 3DMark, Cinebench R15 and SiSoft Sandra 2015, appear to produce stable values already. What's interesting to look at is the Cinebench R15 (OpenGL) value, which is 29 percent higher on the upcoming platform. This appears to be a solid hint that the new integrated GPU is quite a bit faster than the old one.
Nevertheless, it's still going to take about a month until Skylake will be introduced. Therefore these results have to be taken with a grain of salt. There are for example no final drivers yet, and motherboard vendors will release quite a few updates until their products are launched. These updates usually cause quite a decent performance bump.
