Blizzard bans over 100,000 WoW accounts

Six month ban for bots

It appears that Blizzard is determined to stop cheating and bots in World of Warcraft as it has applied a six month ban for over 100,000 accounts.

According to a statement from a Community Manager, these accounts were banned for using "third-party programs that automate gameplay, known as ‘bots.’". He also added that they are committed to provide an equal and fair playing field for all World of Warcraft players and will continue to take action against those found in violation of Terms of Use.

According to a report from Kotaku, over 100,000 accounts were affected and it is quite a huge number, despite the fact WoW still has a base of 7.1 million players. What is more surprising is that Blizzard applied a six month temporary ban, as it usually permanently banned botters before.

While WoW was still good, PvP battles became quite annoying due to a sheer amount of bots. Another issue with the WoW is that players became lazy over the years and have started using programs that automatically do the DPS rotations in raids or even break down collected herbs into pigments and make item crafting automatic, and these are also a part of the same six month ban.
