HP lists OEM Radeon R9 380 graphics card

As a part of its new line of desktop PCs

HP might have jumped the gun with OEM-class Radeon R9 380 graphics card and although this is obviously a re-brand and while there are no precise details, it suggests that we will soon see more details regarding AMD's re-brand plans, at least for OEM part of the lineup.

While it is clear that the Radeon R9 380, spotted listed as a part of the new line of desktop PCs from HP by Techpowerup.com, is a re-brand, we do not have precise details which re-brand it is. The most likely candidate is the Tonga GPU based R9 285, which has now become the R9 380, at least in the OEM world. The R9 380 could also end up to be a re-brand of the R9 280 or R9 280X, based on the Tahiti GPU, but that chip would lack some features based on the Graphics Core Next (GCN) 1.2 architecture.

In case you missed it, AMD's 28nm Tonga GPU is based on 28nm GCN 1.2 architecture and brings support for both FreeSync, XDMA Crossfire and packs 1792 Stream Processors as well as 256-bit memory interface. Earlier last year, there were some talk regarding fully enabled Tonga GPU, which packs 2048 Stream Processors and 384-bit memory interface and it is possible that we might see a R9 380X based on those specifications.

Recent reports regarding consumer part of the market suggest that AMD could re-brand Tonga GPU to two Rx 300 series GPUs, Grenada GPU, which is a refined version of Hawaii GPU could be the R9 380 and R9 380X while the new Fiji GPU should power the R9 390 and R9 390X GPU. There are also couple of rumors suggesting that Fiji GPU based graphics card could get a completely new name, something like Nvidia did with the Titan.

In any case, we should know for sure soon as at least some new information should be available in June at Computex 2015 show.
