While Samsung has recently unveiled its Galaxy S6 Edge smartphone, which features the third-generation flexible display, it has just unveiled more details regarding this flexible display which could be used for foldable and rollable devices in the near future.
While usual displays have elements arranged on rigid glass, Samsung uses polyimide plastic substrate for its new flexible AMOLED display. At under a millimeter thick, this material is half the thickness used in standard mobile display and, according to Samsung, "potentially more bendable than a human hair."
Unfortunately, Samsung did not reveal any figures regarding bending radius or how well it does after repeated bending, but still it sounds quite impressive.
When it comes to specs, this 5.1-inch 2560x1440 resolution display, which adds up to 557PPI of pixel density, covers almost 100% of Adobe RGB spectrum, which is wider than sRGB gamut and has an impressive response time of 0.01 ms, much faster than standard mobile displays.
We certainly hope that we will see more about this display soon and that Samsung will have an actual product on the market soon.
