ASUS has announced that all its motherboards based on Intel's Z97 and X99 chipset will have support for NVM Express (NVMe) storage devices via UEFI BIOS update and optional ASUS Hyper Kit expansion card.
According to ASUS, UEFI BIOS update will enable all ASUS Z97 and X99 motherboards to feature support for NVMe storage devices, including PCI-Express and M.2 interfaces. ASUS also noted that all its ASUS X99 motherboard will be compatible with the latest 2.5-inch NVMe SFF-8639 SSDs with optional ASUS Hyper Kit expansion card, offering transfer speeds of up to 32Gbps.
In case you missed it, NVM Express is a new storage architecture that eliminates bottlenecks and brings better power-efficiency, performance and reduces running cost.
ASUS noted that all its X99 and Z97 motherboards can be updated to a new UEFI BIOS by using ASUS' USB BIOS Flashback tool, which allows users to update the BIOS even when it does not have a CPU or memory modules in place.
