Although Samsung has announced mass production of its mini NVM Express SM951 SSD back in January, it is just now that this little SSD has showed up in retail at Amazon.com.
Announced back in January this year, Samsung's SM951 SSD is available in 128, 256 and 512GB capacities and based on a four-lane PCIe 3.0 interface. It offers sequential transfer speeds of up to 2150MB/s for read and up to 1550MB/s for write. When connected to a Gen2 PCIe interface, the performance drops down to 1600MB/s and 1350MB/s, respectively.
In addition to high transfer performance, PCIe Gen3 interface also enables a couple of other features on the Samsung SM951 including an ultra-low-power mode, the L1.2 state, in which all high-speed circuits are off and power consumption drops to 2mW.
Spotted by Anandtech.com, the Samsung SM951 SSD is currently available at both RamCity and Amazon.com with a price set at US $160 for the 128GB version, US $260 for the 256GB one and US $510 for the 512GB version. Bear in mind that you also might need an M.2 to PCIe adapter since M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 slots are rare.
