Microsoft has launched the new Surface 3 tablet which will feature a 10.8-inch Full HD screen and be based on a quad-core Intel Atom x7-Z8700 processor.
Unlike the previously available Surface 2 tablet, the new Surface 3 tablet runs on x86 of Windows 8.1 and not the Windows RT version. As noted, the new Surface 3 tablet features a 10.8-inch Full HD 1920x1080 resolution screen and is based on Intel's 14nm Braswell quad-core Atom x7-Z8700 CPU paired up with either 2GB or 4GB of RAM, depending on the SKU. The Atom x7-Z8700 runs on 1.6GHz base clock with 2.4GHz Turbo.
As noted, there will be two versions of the Surface 3 tablet, one with 2GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage and one with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The rest of the features include microSD card slot, 8-megapixel rear and 3.5-megapixel front camera, optional LTE connectivity, full size USB 3.0 port, mini DisplayPort output and a battery that should keep it alive for around 10 hours of video playback, at least according to Microsoft.
The new Surface 3 will also have a stylus and come with plenty of accessories including Surface 3 Type Cover and Surface 3 Docking Station.
The new Microsoft Surface 3 starts at US $499 for the 2GB/64GB WiFi-only model. The same model with LTE will go for US $599. The 4GB/128GB Surface 3 will cost US $599 for the WiFi-only version and US $699 for the LTE.
