Samsung rumored to acquire AMD

To take on Intel and Qualcomm directly

According to newest South Korean media reports, Samsung is apparently looking into acquiring AMD, in order to directly compete with Intel and Qualcomm.

While there have been plenty of similar rumors earlier, current state of AMD, which is not that great, suggest that Samsung might make its move now.

The latest report suggest that Samsung has considered the same move back in 2007, but now it makes more sense for Samsung, as it could use AMD's IP to expand its growth and more directly compete with the likes of Intel and Qualcomm.

Such move would be good for both AMD and Samsung, giving Samsung access to AMD's IPs and giving AMD much needed financial backing as well as access to Samsung's 14nm FinFET manufacturing process which should allow it to compete with the likes of Intel.

Of course, this is still just a rumor and nothing is yet confirmed or carved in stone.
