DirectX 12 to bring 20 percent performance boost

Lower CPU utilization and power consumption

During Intel's press conference at Game Developers Conference 2015 in San Francisco, Microsoft has unveiled a bit more information regarding its upcoming DirectX 12 API and performance benefits.

According to Microsoft's Principal Program Manager for Graphics, Bryan Langley, the new DirectX 12 API should bring an improvement of 20 percent in graphics frame rate. In addition to higher frame rate, new DirectX 12 API will also both reduce power consumption as well as lower CPU utilization during gameplay.

Intel has revealed the new "Asteroids" benchmark during GDC 2015 which showed that same FPS improvement of 20 percent as well as drop of CPU consumption from 25 to 9 percent.

According to Microsoft, the upcoming DirectX 12 API may actually be enough to make some games, that were previously unplayable on some hardware, quite playable.

One thing is certain, we can't wait for Microsoft to release its Windows 10 OS and to check out DirectX 12 API in its final form.
