During a press conference at the Game Developers Conference 2015 in San Francisco, Intel revealed a bit more details regarding its plans for desktop 14nm Broadwell CPUs, including the information that these should arrive sometime in the middle of this year.
According to known information, socketed 14nm Broadwell desktop CPUs will fit into 65W TDP and will be unlocked so there will be plenty of room for overclocking. This info also suggest that Intel could use LGA1150 socket and these should be able to run on existing 8-series and 9-series Express chipset motherboard, with BIOS update of course.
It also appears that Intel's Broadwell architecture is doing pretty good and since this is an optical shrink, quad-core chips with 65W TDP do not sound bad at all.
Techpowerup.com also suggest that some dual-core versions could be even based on Core M Broadwell silicon and even end up with a 28W TDP.
During the same event, Intel also talked about it s Next Unit of Computing (NUC) system that will come soon and be based on a Core i7 version of Broadwell chip with 28W TDP. It will be based on Intel's Iris graphics and should be able to run at least some of the games, at reasonable settings of course.
While Intel's Core i7 based NUC is expected to ship next month, it appears that we wil have to wait for 14nm Broadwell desktop chips a bit longer as currently Intel plans to release them sometime in the middle of this year, most likely sometime at Computex 2015 in June.
