During Made to Game event
While the earlier teased Nvidia Made to Game special event which will be held on March 3rd, during the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2015 was mostly pointing to a new Shield Tablet but a fresh report suggest that we might be also see an Nvidia made virtual reality headset as well.
Nvidia will be hosting its Made to Game special event at GDC 2015 in San Francisco on March 3rd, and while this event runs at the same time as the Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona, where we expect to see plenty of new smartphones and tablets, GDC 2015 is definitely the perfect place for a gaming related product launch. While earlier reports suggested that Nvidia is working on a new Shield Tablet and 4K-capable Shield Console, both which should be based on Tegra X1 SoC, the newest report from SlashGear also suggest that Nvidia migh unveil a VR headset as well.
While it definitely managed to hide it pretty well, if it is actually working on it and will launch it during its Made to Game event at GDC 2015, Nvidia has been unveiling certain technologies that are related to virtual reality. With Shield, Shield Tablet, Tegra SoC, G-Sync, VR Direct, GRID and bunch of other technologies, the G-Sync and VR Direct technology, which was introduced with the launch of Maxwell GM204 GPU and GTX 980 graphics card, are definitely ones that draw attention to virtual reality.
The VR Direct technology brought low latency, Virtual Reality SLI, VR DSR, MFAA, Auto Asynchronous Wrap as well as Auto Stereo, all made to improve the quality of the virtual reality experience or improve those things that Oculus Rift suffers from, most importantly, latency.
Nvidia's CEO and founder, Jen-Hsun Huang announced the Made to Game event with a title that says "More than five years in the making, what I want to share with you will redefine the future of gaming" which definitely could be pointing to a VR headset and for now it is anyones best guess, but Nvidia certainly hid it well. We are now definitely looking forward to that event and we will surely keep an eye on Nvidia on March 3rd.
