According to a job listing, AMD is looking to hire a CPU Performance Engineer in order to optimize graphics drivers in CPU bound scenarios. AMD has been recently looking for ways to improve its graphics card drivers and it is definitely a good move for the company.
AMD has been doing quite a lot to improve its graphics card drivers and with Mantle API in the picture as well as recently released Omega drivers, which were one of the biggest AMD graphics card driver update in a while, it does not come as a surprise that AMD is pushing even harder.
The job description was spotted on
AMD's LinkedIn page and according to it, AMD is looking for CPU Performance Engineer in order to optimize its graphics drivers in CPU bound gaming scenarios. AMD has quite a few specific requirements and also notes that "the responsibilities include analyzing CPU bound benchmarks and games to identify a variety of CPU bottlenecks in drivers, optimizing the drivers, and providing optimization actions to ISVs (Independent software vendors)," as well as a fact that the candidate will have to "analyze new CPU architecture impact on driver performance and translate into actionable tasks."
It appears that AMD's graphics drivers will definitely get better when it comes to CPU bound scenarios but this will not happen over night, but it is definitely a worthy effort from AMD.
