According to a newest report, it appears that Intel will not give up on its HEDT platform, at least when it comes to Broadwell architecture, but it will not be ready before Q1 2016.
According to
a report from Fudzilla.com, Intel plans to replace the current Haswell-E architecture with Broadwell-E in Q1 2016. Just as it was the case with Haswell-E chips, the lineup for Broadwell-E will include three SKUs, one high-end eight-core X-branded chip and two six-core K-branded chips. The entire lineup will feature the same 140W TDP.
While naming is still is not carved in stone, it is most likely that Intel will not change anything so the top SKU will most likely be known as the Intel Core i7 6960X.
The Broadwell-E HEDT platform will use the existing LGA 2011 v3 socket and current Intel X99 Express chipset. There will most likely be a BIOS update in order to make them work.
While Intel might skip standard desktop Broadwell-based parts, it appears that HEDT platform is safe and will be updated in Q1 2016.
