AMD putting finishing touches on Radeon 300 series

AMD goes official

Although we had plenty of leaks regarding AMD's upcoming Radeon 300 series graphics cards based on the Fiji GPU, AMD has now officially responded that they are "putting finishing touches" so hopefully we could see the new Radeon 300 series soon.

In a reply to a fan, spotted by Wccftech.com, at its official Facebook page, AMD said that the company is "“putting the finishing touches” on the Radeon 300 series and while the company did not share the official date, it appears that we might see it sooner rather than later.

The reply does not come as a big surprise considering recent rumors that AMD has completed the certification process for a new graphics board and the recent announcement from Dr. Lisa Su, AMD's CEO, that the company is planning to release a graphics refresh in the second quarter of this year. Since we are only a month away from the second quarter, and judging by the amount of recent leaks regarding the Radeon R9 300 series, it appears that these are coming soon.

Recent rumors suggested that AMD's upcoming R9 300 series will feature stacked HBM (High-Bandwidth Memory) technology from SK Hynix that should give it some impressive memory performance as well as power efficiency, while those same rumors also suggested that the Fiji GPU might pack a total of 4096 GCN cores.

There have also been some rumors that AMD is also working on a refresh of its well known Hawaii GPU, which was behind the R9 295X2, R9 290X and R9 290 graphics cards as well as as rumors regarding the upcoming new Trinidad GPU that should replace the R9 270 series with a US $200 price tag.

In any case, it looks like we will have a rather interesting year when it comes to GPUs, and surely Nvidia will have something to show as well.
