A 256GB SSD to cost less than US $70 in H2 2015

According to Apacer prediction

CK Chang, Executive Manager of Apacer, recently interviewed by our Digitimes, has discussed the SSD and memory market, and according to him, by mid-2015 we could see some rather interesting shift in SSD prices.

In an interview done by Digitimes, CK Chang, Executive Manager of Apacer, evaluated that in the second half of 2015 a 256GB SSD would be sold below US $70 and that a 128GB model could be found for less than US $40.

With 14nm, 15nm and 16nm manufacturing processes, chip manufacturers are able to reduce costs, allowing lower prices of the NAND and thus SSDs should rapidly become cheaper. A 256GB SSD is more than enough for most mobile use, and this would be very good news for the notebook market.

CK Chang also took the opportunity to discuss the results of his company, stating that Apacer has managed to report a revenue of US $318 millions in 2014 and 30 percent of that revenue comes from 4 million sold SSDs. In addition, their new partnership with Phison will push the company in enterprise market as well.
