DirectX 12 to be exclusive to Windows 10 OS

Bringing more performance to CPU-bound games

Microsoft has revealed plenty of information regarding Windows 10 OS during its yesterday press conference and one of the more interesting information was about DirectX 12, its performance and the fact that it will be exclusive to Windows 10.

While this might not go well with gamers and developers, Microsoft has decided that its latest API, DirectX 12, will be exclusive to the upcoming Windows 10 OS. This does not come as a surprise considering that some previous Windows OS versions also had exclusivity to the latest version of the DirectX but it also should not be a big problem since Microsoft has announced that Windows 10 will be available for free for Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 users.

Microsoft also shed some information regarding the DirectX 12 and its performance. According to what could be seen and heard during Windows 10 event, DirectX 12 will provide up to 50 percent better performance in CPU-bound titles.

Microsoft's Phil Spencer noted that DirectX 12 will provide developers with more power and control over games. He also noted that it should allow mid-range systems to run high-end games, which definitely sound impressive.

Microsoft's latest Windows 10 OS with DirectX 12 will be released later this year and we are still far away from games that will have support for DirectX 12, but at least we know that it is coming.
