During the 2015 CES in Las Vegas, Plextor introduced a new version of its M.2 PCIe SSD, the M6e Black Edition. In addition to this one, Plextor also showcased the new M7e SSD that should be available soon as well.

Our colleagues from LegitReviews had a chance to check out the demonstration of the new M7e as well as the performance. The SSD market is a tough one with competition constantly offering new products with higher performance, so it was necessary for Plextor to showcase their M7e prototype.

This M.2 form-factor SSD will use four PCIe lines to operate and will be equipped with a Marvell 88SS9293 controller paired up with Toshiba MLC NAND. According to details provided by Plextor at CES 2015 show, the performance of the M7e will exceed 1000MB/s on sequential write and read rates.

The new Plextor M7e will use standard full-size M.2 slot but will most likely ship with a half-height, half-length (HHHL) adapter, just like the M6e SSD.

As noted earlier, our colleagues from LegitReviews had a chance to see the new Plextor M7e SSD in action and scores that they could see were higher than expected. While the prototype (a 1 TB M7e) does not feature a final firmware version yet, it has been able to achieve 1411MB/s in sequential read and 1028MB/s for sequential write.

Plextor plans to release its M7e SSD sometime at the end of Q2 2015 in 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB capacities. Unfortunately, Plextor did not reveal any details regarding the price.
